New CD launch

A new CD msv28565 on the Metier/Divine Art label will be launched at the RAM on Saturday February 18th 2017. Gemini, director Ian Mitchell, are the performers, with soloists Sarah Leonard, soprano, and Aleksander Szram, piano. There are four works: 'Mandala 3' and 'Fire in Leaf and Grass' by David Lumsdaine, and 'Invisible Places' and 'Trio 2: Song for Peter', by Nicola LeFanu.

BBCPhil record Threnody

The BBC Philharmonic conducted by Clark Rundell have recorded two orchestral pieces for future broadcast. On January 27th, they recorded Threnody, for full orchestra, and Wind-blown Seeds for string orchestra.

'A Birthday Card' premiered by Xenia Pestova

'A Birthday Card for Jane O'Leary', for solo piano, was premiered on November 20th 2016, by Xenia Pestova. The concert in the National Concert Hall, Dublin, was in honour of O'Leary's 70th birthday. It is published by Edition Peters, EP 73000.

Premiere of BBCSO/RPS commission, 17/02/17

'The Crimson Bird', for soprano and orchestra, will be premiered on Friday February 17th 2017 at the Barbican Centre, London. Rachel Nicholls is the soprano soloist, and Ilan Volkov conducts the BBCSO. The text is from John Fuller's poem 'Siege'. 'The Crimson Bird' was commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Society through the award of the Elgar Bursary.

'Lament 1988' performance, February 26th 2016

'Lament 1988' will be performed by players from the Chimera Ensemble, at the Jack Lyons Concert Hall, York, on Friday February 26th at 7.30. 'Lament' is scored for oboe, clarinet, viola and cello; it was written in 1988 to mark Nelson Mandela's 70th birthday; at that date, he was still imprisoned.
